It was nice, but it was a bit over-priced.

We have just returned from spending 7 nights there. We have visited several times over the 13 years the resort has been operating. We recommended the resort to friends who joined us this visit (we wish we hadn't). We always found the service and food fantastic and this complimented the resorts perfect location. The resort has 3 main restaurants: Seabelle (al la carte) mains AU$30-$40; wine $40+. Maheno (buffet w/ theme nights, Asian, Mediterranean, Seafood etc. ) AU$35p/p and AU$60 for seafood night and. Sand Bar (bistro) mains AU$20-$30. Seabelle had great food and wine and the service was excellent. Maheno food was OK but service was atrocious every night we went there (which was 3 nights). Made us wait 20 minutes for a table when we had made a reservation; got drink orders wrong; left us with dirty plates and without service for ages. Sand Bar had god food (we had pizzas) and staff were friendly and helpful. The Pool Bar: Pool Bar staff were absolutely hopeless; they couldn't make cocktails; they consistently got food orders incorrect and their supervisor was aggressive and rude. To top off the experience after spending in excess of AU$5K they slugged us with a 1% fee for using our Visa Debit Card. Summary: Beautiful place and location. Terrible service and value for money. Heard on returning to the mainland that the fast catamaran service is going to cease in early 2010 as a 'cost cutting' exercise. Look out for a 'For Sale' sign or 'Under New Management' sign soon!!!

Lovely resort. Staff very helpful. Food in Seabelle Restaurant delicious but average in Maheno and Sand Bar. I have been to the resort several times, but some years apart. My last visit, in January, was disappointing compared to my previous visits. The level of ranger knowledge seems to have decreased, with the employment of younger, less experienced rangers and the weather was very poor while we were there, yet they just cancelled a lot of the outdoor activities (including Australia Day festivities) without offering an indoor alternative. I know that Fraser Island is all about being outdoor, but I thought that they would at least have had a wet weather plan for Australia Day!

The resort is fine but NEVER HIRE 4wd THERE, whis is promoted upon booking. CARS ARE OLD - some from 1996, POORLY MANAGED VEHICLES. ON THE DAY OF BOOKING TWO CARS BROKE DOWN. THEY PROMISED US LANDCRUISER AND THEN CHANGED TO HILUX, WHICH IS SMALLER LESS COMFORTABLE TRACK, NOT AN SUV THAT WE BOOKED. BUT AT THE SAME PRICE. THE MANAGER MICHAEL WAS RUDE AND OFFENSIVE. I RECOMMEND MAGIC FRASER 4wd HIRE. Better cars with more models to choose from.
