Had a basic meal of pad thai for lunch, it was the worst I have ever eaten (and I have had many!). It was absolutely dripping with oil, the noodles were not properly cooked and it lacked the basic garnishes of bean sprouts, peanuts etc - just a wedge of lemon. When I told the staff that I wasn't going to eat it as I was fearing a cardiac arrest, they still tried to charge me for it... Stay a long way from this place. You would be better off with 2 minute noodles in your hotel room.
This was the worst restaurant experience we have ever had! The restaurant looks good, nice decor etc. But don't be fooled! The waitress showed us to a dirty table, flipped the centre piece, and seated us. I had to keep my elbow away from the stains on the white table cloth for the rest of the meal. This I could take with a sense of humour. But things just got worse, beyond a joke. The waitress and the Maitre D who we later learned was "George" had an argument about the bottle of wine that we had brought with us, that he had greeted us at the front door with, and that the waitress had opened and brought a cooler for. Later she rudely told us that George had told her off for allowing us to drink it, and next time we should know not to BYO our wine. Okay. All they had to do was tell us that when we walked in! So, let's forget it and just enjoy some food right? Wrong! We ordered the 'Lemongrass soup' as a starter. It was very salty, and there was not the balance between salty, sour and sweet you would expect with Thai. But in it's defense, it did have a lovely rich seafood base that tasted fresh. For mains we ordered the Papaya salad with prawns and the Green Jungle curry. The Papaya salad came out first. We started eating - salty!! So extremely salty. I guess by now we didn't want to ruin each others night any more, so we just continued to eat. Then the Jungle curry came out - black, not green, and smelling of soy! Have you ever heard of soy in Thai food? The taste? Yes, extremely salty! We couldn't do it anymore. We called the waitress, quietly explained the situation, and asked for the bill, minus the Jungle curry that we just couldn't eat without washing it down with three buckets of water! She walked around the corner, found "George", and very loudly, so the whole restaurant could hear, told him what we had said. Her lack of discretion was their loss, but it continued. Then George comes to our table to ask "what is the problem". We explained that the Papaya salad had been so salty, and now the Jungle Curry was posing the same problem, and we could just not eat it, so we could not pay for it. He was not the gracious host - he insinuated that we had not eaten Thai food before, that the curry was too hot for us, that we did not know what a Papaya salad should taste like. He told us that the restaurant had won awards and no-one had ever complained. He made us feel like we were being unreasonable and had to pay for the food we had eaten. We explained we were not trying to get out of paying for food we had eaten, we just could not take in any more salt, and would not pay for what we hadn't eaten! So that was that. It was a relief to finally walk out of what seemed like a hellish experience from start to end! The truth is this restaurant has never won any awards, it was only a finalist among many other restaurants back in 2007 - which category I wonder? Decor? I recommend that you avoid this restaurant at all cost.
