If you're travelling between Rockhampton and Mackay, call into the lovely town of Sarina and visit this mini sugar mill. If you have a sweet tooth, I'd recommend the Taste the Tour Taste the Action tour which includes tastings of their specialty products including liqueurs, sauces, ginger beer, fairy floss and my favourite the new Sarina Sugar Shed Rum! The guides were very knowledgeable about the sugar industry too. A great tour for young and old. There's also a nice onsite cafe.

This is a great, free swimming place for all the family! A shaded water playground / kid-safe water slide and paddle pool for the tiny children is brilliant and fun, even for the parents. :) There are two more beautiful pools, a water slide, picnic and barbecue facilities and lovely, tropical gardens. It is also well staffed, at least in peak holiday times, it has a shop and is across the road from a major shopping centre and convenient to the centre of Mackay and the beautiful river precinct.

A very young botanic gardens - just 7 years old - this is a great place to see plants from the local region - and excellent bird watching on the lagoons. Good quality cafe, not a lot of shade yet so wear a hat. Book a free guided walk and learn a LOT more about the plants and animals there.
