Liked this Place - Note: If you are used to staying at modern 4/5 star hotels, then this place isn't for you. This place is ideal for people on a budget who want a little room, want quiet, a nice little beach, and woodlands / greenery (saw lots of wallabies), - and who are a little easy going in regards to accommodation. Travelling up east coast of Australia with husband and three childen aged 5, 8 and 9. Not a fan of Mackay and when stayed in Mackay previously and didn't like it one little bit (sorry not a fan of Mackay) and vowed never to visit Mackay again - but some places you can't avoid. Found this place on wotif and it was surprising nice and relaxing. The area itself Halliday Bay is absolutely lovely. This place is next to / part of a pretty nine whole golf course and pretty Halliday Beach. Stayed only one night, but next time would stay two. It's about 30minute drive from Mackay but worth every minute of the drive. Now the accommodation - cabin - 2 star, 70 decore BUT it had linen and towels, it was clean, the shower was hot. It had a room for husband and I, and four beds in the lounge area for the children. The TV worked. Very basic and cried refurbishment, BUT we got a great deal for five people with all linen and towels included. We overlooked the golfcourse and strolled to the golf club for a meal and wines (good kids meals and I loved my steak sandwich). Management were lovely. This place was good for us - no fuss, quiet and comfortable - at a really good price. Help ->: There is no signage so when you get to the corner of Headland drive where you'll see the country fire brigade on the left and the golf course on the right - continue up headland drive and once you pass all the cabins on your right, you'll see the golf club (if you reach the beach you have gone too far - last building to the right before the beach is the golf club with a volleyball court) - park your car where is says Day Visitors Welcome (drive onto the grass)- and walk right into the golf club. This is where you'll get your key / details for your cabin. Stayed June 2011.
